Young people from Youth Initiatives and Diverse Youth recently took part in the Belfast Anti-Racism Cup, a 5-a-side football tournament designed to bring people together from different backgrounds through a shared love of the game.

The tournament created a space where teams from across communities could come together, including players with connections to countries such as Ghana, Sudan, Nigeria, Syria and Zimbabwe. The focus was on inclusion, participation, and creating a positive environment both on and off the pitch.

YI and Diverse Youth entered four teams into the competition, all of whom played their part in a strong and competitive day of football. There was a great atmosphere throughout, with teams supporting each other and embracing the opportunity to connect with people they might not otherwise meet.

It was especially encouraging to see one of the Diverse Youth teams go on to win the tournament. Their success reflected not just their quality on the pitch, but also the spirit they brought to the day.
More than just a tournament, the Belfast Anti-Racism Cup showed how football can bring people together, break down barriers, and create shared experiences across cultures and communities.
