Faith Development

DSC_0038.JPG

At Youth Initiatives, faith development is about journeying alongside young people, wherever they are starting from.

We recognise that young people come with different experiences, questions, levels of belief, and openness to faith. Our role is not to rush or force outcomes, but to create space, opportunity, and support for young people to explore faith at their own pace.

Our Faith Development Pathway reflects this approach. It is relational, flexible, and progressive, allowing young people to move naturally between different types of engagement as trust grows and curiosity deepens

Outreach and Initial Engagement

Faith development often begins long before faith is ever named.

Through schools work, retreats, street-based outreach, peer-to-peer engagement, summer programmes, and church-linked mission, we build relationships with young people in everyday spaces. These early encounters focus on presence, trust, and connection, offering safe opportunities for young people to ask questions and feel welcomed without expectation or pressure

Creative Activities & Programmes

As relationships develop, young people are invited into more regular engagement through centre-based activities and programmes. These include personal and social development sessions, school retreats and classes, one-to-one conversations and mentoring, summer schemes, and volunteer opportunities.

Faith themes are explored creatively and accessibly, often through discussion, reflection, storytelling, and shared experience. At this stage, young people are encouraged to explore meaning, identity, and values in ways that connect faith with their lives

Experiential Encounters & Events

For some young people, faith becomes something they want to experience more deeply.

Residential weekends, camps, mission and service trips, local mission projects, summer events, and pilgrimages offer immersive spaces where young people can encounter faith through community, service, worship, and reflection. These experiences often become key moments of growth, helping faith move from an idea to something lived and shared

Intentional Engagement

As curiosity becomes commitment, young people may choose to engage more intentionally with faith.

Through programmes such as Alpha, Faith Development sessions, Christian events, and guided steps of faith, young people are supported to ask deeper questions, explore prayer, and consider what following Jesus might look like in their own lives.

Practical Discipleship

For young people who wish to go further, we offer opportunities for practical discipleship.

This includes internships, mission years, volunteering within faith-based programmes, and intentional practices such as prayer, service, and leadership development. Young people are supported to live out their faith in everyday life, developing confidence, responsibility, and a sense of vocation

Community of Believers

Faith development does not end with Youth Initiatives.

We actively support young people to connect into the wider community of believers through local churches, chaplaincy, young adult ministries, and fellowship groups. Our aim is to help young people find sustainable faith communities where they can continue to grow and belong beyond our programmes
