YI Downpatrick was named runner up in the Good Relations Youth Award at this year’s Good Relations Awards, delivered by the Community Relations Council and the Northern Ireland Youth Forum.
The awards recognise individuals and organisations across Northern Ireland who are working to strengthen relationships and create opportunities for people from different backgrounds to connect.

The Good Relations Youth Award focuses on young people who are contributing to positive community relationships. The work in YI Downpatrick's Summer Scheme this year centred around creating spaces where young people can meet, build friendships, and engage with different perspectives in a natural and respectful way.
Attending the awards ceremony also gave a chance to hear about the wider range of work happening across Northern Ireland. From community projects to long-term initiatives, there was a strong sense of how many different approaches are contributing to a better understanding and connection between communities.
It was a helpful reminder that good relations work often happens in small, consistent ways. Conversations, shared experiences, and creating welcoming spaces all play a part.
We are so proud of our staff, volunteers, and young people in Downpatrick for being recognised in this way. It reflects the consistent effort they put into building a shared future in Northern Ireland and investing in their local community.
